Quirky wedding with the best ever speeches at the Bell in Ticehurst

Stuffed foxes, library books at the Bell in Ticehurst

“We don’t have enough words. These are just amazing! As we expected, you completely captured the essence of the day. The photos made us smile, laugh and at times wonder how our faces did that! It was so touching and we totally took your advice stuck on some good tunes, snuggled up on the sofa and had a few G&Ts to make a date night of it. Just wow!”

When Brighton couple Rachel and Lucas first got in touch with me about their countryside wedding at the Bell in Ticehurst, I was stoked – they were planning a really fun countryside wedding with a live swing band, a quiz and even their own DJ sets! Rachel and Lucas are the loveliest people and I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding!

Getting ready

I rocked up at The Bell, where the couple and their families were getting ready, to find everyone so chilled out. Rachel wore a gorgeous 1920’s inspired dress and Lucas wore the dapperest of striped suits.   They looked stunning together. Everyone got ready together (in separate rooms) at the Bell.   It was such a lovely, friendly, relaxed vibe.

The Bell is such a fabulous place to get married.  It suited Rachel and Lucas’s style perfectly.   Warm, elegant, welcoming, quirky touches all around.   The food is sublime!

Rachel and bridesmaids and Mum got ready in the lovely rustic lodge overlooking the gorgeous Sussex countryside while Lucas and brother/best man Ed got ready in the groovily named Moon Wild Room which had a real tree in it!

Monica and Bev worked beautifully on Rachel’s makeup and hair and she looked absolutely stunning. Alex my lovely second shooter for the day focused on Lucas and Ed whilst I hung out with Rachel and her team!

The Bell in Ticehurst – the perfect venue for the wedding ceremony

The wedding took place in the beautiful upstairs room “The Big Room and was a gorgeously emotional, funny and relaxed ceremony. There were beautiful readings, passionately delivered by Nancy, Gill and Auntie Ellie.

Uncle Martin then played a beautiful guitar piece while the register was signed. After the ceremony, Rachel and Lucas made their escape to the Snug, and then everyone lined up armed with confetti in the amazing Stable room for the traditional red carpet and bell ringing. Rachel and Lucas made their grand entrance, walked down the red carpet and duly rang “The Bell” to announce their marriage.

As it was such a lovely day, everyone then filtered outside for drinks whilst we did a few group photos and then onto their couple portraits.
It was a beautifully warm bright day, which was perfect for photos. While the guests hung around drinking Prosecco, we wandered off to get some fun and creative photos. Rachel and Lucas had said in their pre-wedding consult that they were pretty much up for anything for their couple portraits. So we trotted off across the football pitch to a close-by field. The light, colour of the sky and the bare wheat field all seemed to aline and make for some gorgeous photos. Plus I think the fact that Rachel and Lucas were just so happy to be married and loved up we got some great shots. My favourite photo from our portrait session is them just laughing and really being with each other, oblivious of the camera and with such a stunning backdrop of the Sussex countryside.

The reception

The wedding reception took place in the same room as the ceremony, which was the quickest and most impressive of room transformations, they’d decorated with enormous balloons, and lovely flowers. It was stunningly rustic and beautiful.
For the wedding breakfast guests were served a slap up meal, which was super yummy. After the meal everyone gathered again in the Stables to listen to some of the most bloody amazing speeches I have heard! The speeches had everyone simultaneously in stiches and tears! Then the band kicked off the party and the couple hit the dancefloor. The dancefloor was soon crammed and the party had started! What a night!
What a fabulously beautiful, fun and totally relaxed wedding sooooo full of love. Biggest congrats Rachel and Lucas
